YouTube Launches Custom Multiview on TV

YouTube has officially rolled out its custom Multiview feature on the YouTube TV app, following a limited testing phase. This update marks a major step toward a more flexible and personalized viewing experience, especially as live content continues to grow in popularity.
More Control Over Your Viewing Experience
Previously, Multiview relied on pre-selected channel combinations. However, with this update, users can now choose their own live channels and watch them simultaneously on a single screen. As a result, switching between streams is no longer necessary, making it ideal for users who follow multiple events at once.
Introducing Multiview Builder
In addition, YouTube introduced a new tool called “Multiview Builder”, which allows users to create fully customized viewing layouts. Through this feature, viewers can combine content from various categories such as sports, news, movies, and shows. Moreover, the tool provides smart recommendations based on user preferences, making the setup process faster and more intuitive.
Current Limitations
Despite its advantages, the feature is currently limited to live content only. This means that on-demand or recorded videos cannot be added to the multiview screen, which may restrict some use cases for now.
Device Compatibility
On the other hand, Google confirmed that the feature is available on most modern smart TVs. However, a small percentage of older devices (less than 5%) may not support full customization. In such cases, users can still access a simplified version focused on major live events.
Overall, this update highlights YouTube’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience by offering more control, flexibility, and smarter content consumption—particularly on larger screens where multitasking viewing is becoming increasingly popular.
