Apple iOS 27 AI Upgrade

Apple is preparing a major leap in artificial intelligence with its upcoming iOS 27, alongside iPadOS 27 and macOS 27. The update is expected to focus heavily on AI-powered features designed to reshape how users edit photos, interact with devices, and use digital assistants.
AI-Powered Photo Editing Comes to iPhone
One of the biggest highlights of iOS 27 is a new set of tools inside the Photos app under the name Apple Intelligence Tools. These features aim to make professional-level editing simple and automatic for everyday users.
The first tool, Extend, allows users to expand images beyond their original borders by generating realistic new visual content that matches the scene. Next, Enhance automatically improves lighting, colors, and overall image quality with a single tap. Finally, Reframe enables users to change the perspective of spatial photos by adjusting depth and angle for a more dynamic result.
On-Device AI for Privacy and Speed
Apple is reportedly focusing on running these AI models directly on the device rather than relying on cloud processing. This approach is designed to improve performance while maintaining Apple’s strong privacy standards. However, some features like Extend and Reframe may face technical challenges, which could delay their full release.
A Smarter Siri Inspired by ChatGPT
Alongside photo tools, Apple is also working on a completely upgraded version of Siri. The assistant is expected to adopt a more conversational style, similar to AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini. It may also be supported by cloud-based systems, including infrastructure linked to Google, while still maintaining Apple’s privacy commitments.
In addition, Apple is considering launching Siri as a standalone app for the first time, making it more flexible and powerful across devices.
Launch Timeline
Apple is expected to officially reveal these features at WWDC 2026 in June. The updates will then roll out to users later in the year, marking one of the most significant AI-focused upgrades in Apple’s software history.
