Apple Unveils the New AirTag with Longer Range, Louder Sound, and Smarter Tracking

Apple has officially introduced a new generation of AirTag, bringing significant improvements in tracking range, sound performance, and overall usability. The updated AirTag is designed to help users locate their belongings faster and more accurately through the Find My app, reinforcing Apple’s position in the smart tracking market.

The new AirTag became available globally starting January 26, 2026, at the same pricing as the previous model: $29 for a single unit and $99 for a pack of four. Apple also continues to offer free personalized engraving when purchasing through apple.com or the Apple Store app.

According to Apple, these enhancements were inspired by real-world success stories from AirTag users worldwide, including cases where people recovered life-saving medications, valuable musical instruments, and other irreplaceable items.

Next-Generation Technology for Ultra-Precise Tracking

At the heart of the new AirTag is Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip, the same technology used in the latest iPhone 17 lineup, iPhone Air, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Apple Watch Series 11.

Apple explained that the upgraded chip enables more accurate location tracking, along with improved visual, haptic, and audio feedback. Thanks to this advancement, the Precision Finding range has been extended by up to 50% compared to the previous AirTag.

In addition, the redesigned louder built-in speaker makes it easier to locate items hidden under furniture, inside bags, or in noisy environments.

For the first time, Apple has also enabled Precision Finding directly from the Apple Watch, allowing users with Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2, and newer models to locate their items straight from their wrist.

Powered by Apple’s Massive Find My Network

The new AirTag continues to rely on Apple’s expansive Find My network, which uses hundreds of millions of Apple devices worldwide to help locate lost items—even when they’re far from the owner’s phone.

Apple also highlighted the growing success of the “Share Item Location” feature, which allows users to temporarily and securely share the location of a lost item with trusted third parties, such as airline staff.

Currently, Apple partners with more than 50 airlines to support this feature. According to aviation technology company SITA, using shared AirTag location data has helped reduce baggage delays by 26% and cut cases of permanently lost luggage by an impressive 90%.

Access to shared location data is strictly limited, automatically expires after seven days, or ends immediately once the item is recovered.

Privacy and Safety at the Core

Apple emphasized that AirTag is designed exclusively for tracking personal items, not people or pets. The company continues to implement industry-leading safeguards against unwanted tracking, including automatic alerts and frequently changing Bluetooth identifiers.

Apple confirmed that location data and movement history are never stored on the AirTag itself, and all communications within the Find My network are protected by end-to-end encryption. Even Apple cannot access the identity of devices involved in the tracking process.

Sustainability and Accessory Compatibility

The new AirTag aligns with Apple’s “Apple 2030” environmental goals. The device casing is made with 85% recycled plastic, while all magnets and gold plating use 100% recycled materials. The packaging is fully fiber-based and recyclable.

Apple has retained the original AirTag design, ensuring full compatibility with existing accessories. The FineWoven key ring is also available, made with 68% recycled materials and offered in five color options.

A Smarter, Safer Way to Protect What Matters

With improved range, louder sound, deeper device integration, and continued focus on privacy and sustainability, the new AirTag represents a meaningful evolution of Apple’s tracking technology. It offers users—especially in the Arab market—a smarter and more reliable way to keep track of their most valuable belongings while meeting modern standards for security and environmental responsibility.
